Weekly Report-Oct 10, 2007

-Well, what is up with the polls? Kentucky drops 9 spots for losing to a ranked South Carolina, while USC drops 8-9-5 depending on the poll for losing to crappy Stanford??? There is obvious USC bias in the polls. USC should have dropped to 15-20, not from 5-7 (Harris poll has USC at 7, their best ranking). We need to scrutinize these poll voters, and possibly let some new voices be heard, or better yet, have no preseason polls. EVER.

-Oklahoma made a great jump to get back into the National Title picture, while South Florida took a back seat jump. Remember-the Big East champ needs to be unbeated to go to the BCS Title Game to jump over a Big 12 team-but only if it is South Florida. If it is Cincy who goes 12-0, the Bearcats will be unbeaten-and possibly in the Sugar Bowl.

-There is a new team to watch in the Big 10-Illiois. Ron Zook built the team Urban Meyer won a BCS Championship with at Florida, and is hoping to win big in Champaign. Rashard Mendenhall is the best RB in the country right now (IMO), and they look faster than anyone in the Big 10 (Hello Ohio State-Nov 10!).

-Cal may be beaming as the top dog in the Pac 10 and rightfully so. The Bears benefit by having USC lose, and having already beat Oregon, take a shot at Oregon St this week (In Berkley). However, with UCLA and Arizona St on the raod the next 2 games and then hosting Washington and USC, we get to see if this team is properly ranked. This is not a shot on Cal for my part, just pointing out the difficult road that lies ahead for the Bears.

-South Florida and Cincy on top of the Big East? Yet it is true. One coach in Jim Leavitt will not be going anywhere anytime soon, while Brian Kelly the coach of Cincinnati could bolt anytime now. Look for his name to surface at some big name schools this year.

-Heisman Hopefuls:

DeSean Jackson, Cal
Tim Tebow, Florida
Chase Daniel, Missouri
Glenn Dorsey, LSU
Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois

Yes, there is a defensive player here, no one else has a real chance IMO except for these players listed.

-Conference Power ratings

1. SEC-LSU, Florida are still the best 2 teams.
2. Pac 10-Cal and Oregon and USC still good
3. Big 12-Oklahoma and Missouri could meet again in Big 12 Title Game
4. ACC-Big props to V-Tech and BC
5. Big 10-Illinois and Ohio St rule the roost here.
6. Big East-Biggest dropper by far.
