Weekly Report-Oct 17, 2007

-If anyone ever doubted the SEC, last weekend proved why they are the best conference in America. Kentucky beat the #1 team in the country in LSU, Auburn and Arkansas played a tight game, and on and on. All you really need to know is which conference has the most ranked teams? it ain't the Pac 10 that's for sure.

-Notre Dame has had a lot of players leave or quit since the spring. This may be good, but it also may be bad. Irish fans need to know the direction of this program. Of course if they pull off the impossible and beat USC-this will be a moot point.

-Ohio St is back on top, and it seems the showdown with Wisconsin is the only obstacle-but remember Michigan St. The Spartans knocked off the Buckeyes from #1 before, and a win is desperately needed for them to cement a good bowl game.

-Cal had a chance to make a big statement last week and failed. UCLA has done well against the good teams, but not the bad. Cal is playing for its BCS hopes this week-beating UCLA now and playing the hardest stretch in their schedule (UCLA, Arizona St, Wash St and USC).

-Boston College may be the biggest WTF? Unbeaten team. Why? B/c BC has not been seen by anyone. A lot of people have seen South Florida, but nobody it seems has seen a BC game. Notre Dame stinks, but Virginia Tech is ready next Thurs for the Eagles-their 1st big game of the year in a prime time setting. They ain't playing UMass now.

-All the talking heads are gushing over S. Florida. And rightfully so. The Bulls may be the highest ranked team in Florida (definitely better than Miami and FSU, and they beat Auburn, who beat Florida). But they will NOT get in the title game. The Bulls may be penalized by playing in a small conference-and would be hurt by not having a conference championship game. If the Bulls take out Rutgers tomorrow night, and win out-UConn is the only 'challenge', then the Bulls may be in the Title game, but I think Rutgers has something to play for-like they did against L'Ville last year on a Thurs Night home game on ESPN.

-Steve Pederson being ousted in Nebraska means Bill Callahan is on the way out. Tom Osbourne is the interim AD, and may be involved in the potential coaching search. Names to consider are:

Turner Gill-Buffalo Head Coach (Former Neb RB under Osbourne)
Brian Kelly-Cincy Head Coach (They can't keep him for long)
Nick Saban-Bama Head Coach (Nebraska spends WAAAYY more $ than Bama, plus with Warren Buffet as the 2nd richest man in the world, and a Husker fan need I say more?)
Rich Rodriguez-West Virginia Head Coach (Took the Bama job until they upped his pay at WVU)

-No Heisman watch this week!

-Upset Alert:

Florida over Kentucky-Wildcats still celebrating beating LSU, but better watch out. The Gators had a bye week, and got healthy watching UK pull the upset. The Gators are hungry after losing 2 straight, and since 1990 when UK is on the schedule, espiecially coming off of a loss, the Gators blast the Cats. Another close SEC game.

-Sure thing:

Texas over Baylor-Guy Morriss may be on the way out of Waco this year. There is now way UT loses this one. NO WAY!
